Routine Podiatry Appointment
Includes nail care, removal of any corns of callosities. Advice on how to
maintain good healthy feet.
Advice will be given on how to treat verrucaes, athletes foot, blisters &
bunions.
Verrucae Treatment
Treatments may vary from the use of home treatments supplied by the Podiatrist to stronger caustics which may only be used under close supervision.
We also offer cryosurgery (freezing using liquid nitrogen) to destroy verrucae / warts.
Nail Surgery
This is where in-growing toe nails, damaged or thickened nails which cause
pain can be removed permanently under local anaesthetic.
It is possible to remove part of the nail or the whole nail depending on the level of treatment required.
Biomechanics & Orthotics
A Biomechanical assessment takes one hour to complete. This can be useful
for anyone who sufferers from, knee, hip, lower back or foot pain.
During the assessment it is best to wear shorts as the patient will be asked
to walk barefoot. The ranges of motion and strength of joints and soft
tissues will be examined.
After a diagnosis is made, it maybe necessary to prescribe an orthotic which
maybe temporary or permanent. The type of device required will be discussed
by the podiatrist.
A permanent orthotic will require an impression of the patients foot
during the consultation. This can be carried out using plaster of Paris
bandage or a foam box.
The cast will be sent to a lab for manufacturing and may take up to 3 weeks to
fit.
Temporary orthoses may consist of a pre-fabricated orthotic or a chair side
made device that be made and can be worn following the appointment.
Children (Podopaediatrics)
It is never too early to have childrens feet
checked. We treat children for a number of problems including biomechanics.
We may choose to monitor some children and others may be fitted with a
paediatric orthotic.
High Risk Patients
Patients with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, neurological diseases and
circulatory problems are referred to as high risk as these types of feet
when subjected to trauma are more prone to infection and ulceration. These are
usually slow to heal.
It is necessary to detect the level of risk at the initial assessment. We do
this by carrying out a vascular and neurological assessment.
Our treatment of these types of feet include removal of corns, callus.
Padding & the use of orthoses inside ones shoes to alleviate pressure. This will
include footwear and foot-care advice.
Home Visits
Home visits are limited and will only be carried out to those who are house
bound.
